Seriously?!!! And you know what?, this is not the first time nor will it be the last that people will email us asking about the dogs, then try to dicker on the price, or expect that if they promise to give the dog a good home, they will do that, but they can't pay!!!
My response to this idiot was:
What do you mean you don't have any money? why are you getting a dog? Do you think you are going to find a dog that doesn't cost you any money? Dogs are a financial responsiblilty, they need food, a bed, toys, treats and vet care (planned or uplanned). You have to provided those things for any dog, no matter how much it cost you to aquire, unless you plan to just dump the dog for being hungry or needing shots???
If you are in financial trouble, don't think about getting a dog, think about providing for your son, he needs a home and food, not a dog.
Was my response rude? I don't so. I think its rude for people to not provide for their family, or their pets. I trully wish that people had to take a test and save up X amount of money before they were allowed to have a kid, and then another test and another bank account before they can have a pet.
So guess what? If you are thinking of getting a dog from us, its $300 for the adoption fee, no ifs, ands, or buts. We have health checked, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed or neutered the dog. We work with a great team of vet clinics that provide these services at a discounted rate.
If you got a dog for free off kijiji or out of the classifieds, and none of those procedures have been done, heres an idea of the costs you are looking at if you had a dog about 50 pounds:
Health Check: $69.99
Vaccinations (incld. Rabies): $118.00
Deworming: depends on brand, let's say cheapest is $ 25.00 per dose (min. 2 doses = $50)
Microchipping: 34.00
Spay: $ 351.10 FEMALE TOTAL:$623.09
or Neuter: $284.83 MALE TOTAL: $556.82
**none of these prices are including GST, and these are the prices from an average priced vet clinic in Lethbridge......Calgary residence, go ahead and pretty much double those costs.
These are minimum and basic procedures for your dog (forgot you have to do three sets of vaccinations, so add that in). Minimum and basic care = Responsible pet owner.
I don't think that your comment was rude at all. These are the type of people who end up giving up their dogs because they don't realize the amount of responsibility that comes with owning a dog. It really boggles my mind how people can even consider owning a dog when they can't even feed themselves. It's so irresponsible... you can only imagine where the dog will end up after a little while.
ReplyDeleteI think your comment was rude, you are heading an organization and you should be professional when you are speaking on behalf of a corporation. The rescue does wonderful work for animals and you shouldn't let rude remarks like this destroy such a fantastic foundation!!! a simple no and explanation of the cost's of adoption would have been a much more appropriate response!!! as a business owner, I would be very unhappy at my employee's responding to someone like this! And also he probably was not considering it rude when he said that, sometimes rather than a dog being stuck in foster for too long, it would be better getting the dog into it's forever home as that is really the goal here!!! I know i have no more room for another dog, however i would be happy to donate the 300$ if it meant i knew the dog was going to a good home!! Not trying to harp on you but just saying that word gets around and one unhappy customer that you wrote a rude message to will tell that to someone -they'll pass it on and so fourth! This is such an amazing rescue that no negativity should be around such a positive and inspiring thing like this dog rescue!!!
